What is an Official Business Account?
- An official business account has a green checkmark badge in its profile and chat thread headers.
- The display name is visible even if the user hasn't added the business to their address book. Very few businesses will be an official business account.
- Links will be clickable when a business reaches out to a user for the first time with a WhatsApp template message (you do not need to wait for the user to respond for the link to be live)
Pre-requirements
- the phone number needs to be connected with WhatsApp Business API
- the Meta Business Manager has to be verified
- the display name associated with the phone number needs to match the branding of the business
- the brand must be internationally well known
=> even if all the requirements are met, WhatsApp does not guarantee the Official Business Account.
The criteria for acceptance are known only by WhatsApp. Please, be aware that this process and decision are governed by WhatsApp. Zendesk has not control over their decision and it is not possible to appeal their decision.
If an Official Business Account is rejected, the brand can apply 30 days after (WhatsApp policy).
How to apply for an Official Business Account?
If the pre-requirements are met, you can send a request to the Sunshine Conversations Team at whatsappactivation@support.zendesk.com and they'll ask WhatsApp to review the necessary details.
The ISV should send the following info:
- brand name
- phone number to verify
- brand website link
- brand Facebook page link
- brand Instagram link
- Media links like Articles, blog posts, independent reviews that show the business is a well-known brand
Sunshine Conversations will create a request with WhatsApp and should be able to update you within 2-6 days.
