WhatsApp Template Messages are message formats for common reusable messages a business may want to send to end-user. There are three categories of Template Messages:
- Text Templates: this type of templates only includes text with variables (i.e. {{1}}, {{2}},...).
- Media Templates: this type of template includes plain text with variables but also contains:
- A header: can contain a document or an image or text.
- A footer: can only contain text.
- Interactive Templates: quick reply and buttons
If you would like to submit Template Messages to be approved by WhatsApp against the WhatsApp Business Account(s) we host on your behalf, you can do so by logging into your Sunshine Conversations dashboard and navigating to your WhatsApp Integration page. There you will find instructions for submitting each individual template message for approval.
Please note that sending Template Messages will incur costs from WhatsApp based on country code of the recipient. Sunshine Conversations will pass through any charges and include any fees on your monthly Sunshine Conversations invoice a month in arrears.
Creation Tips
-
Name: A message template name can only contain lowercase alphanumeric characters and underscores ( _ ). No other characters or spaces are allowed.
-
Language(s): Here is the list of all the languages currently supported by WhatsApp.
-
Variables: The correct format for variables is this string: {{#}}, where # represents the variable index. Note: variables must begin at {{1}}.
- Formatting:
Formatting | Description | Symbol | Example |
---|---|---|---|
Italic text | Italicize your message with an underscore on both sides of the text | _text_ | Hello _SunCO_ |
Bold text | Place an asterisk on both sides of the text | *text* | Welcome to *SunCo* |
Struck through text |
To strikethrough your message, place a tilde on both sides of the text | ~text~ | This is ~better~ best! |
Monospace text / code
|
Place three back-ticks on both sides of the text | ```text``` | I love```SunCo``` |
Emojis | Emojis are supported - simply use the emoji keyboard | 😀 | 😀 |
WhatsApp Template Message status (approved, rejected, under review)
Once you have submitted your templates, WhatsApp will review them for approval. To check the status of each Template, select the Download templates (.CSV)
link in the Message Templates
tab of your WhatsApp Integration Dashboard page in the Dashboard to view the status of WhatsApp's review. If you have more than about 50 unique message templates, you might find that the CSV is missing some of them. If that is the case, then use the "Download by Name" button to narrow down your search.
You can also retrieve your templates using the API.
